Office Inspiration

Ever since I was a kid I've sort of been a neat freak. Yes, my room gets trashed frequently...but for the most part I'd considered myself an organized person. I just wish I had the motivation to clean/organize a room that I'll only be in for about another month...hmm. I don't think I've ever thought of a home office as being "pretty" but these are GORGEOUS. I can't believe how cute these are! Or how much I'm in love with them...wow I'm weird, but I don't think I'm alone in saying that these work spaces are incredible.

Easiest Project Ever!

Hello and Happy Father's Day!! I went and saw a movie (Hangover II) with my dad and had some fro-yo afterwards, it was nice to spend some one -on-one time with him. After I got home I started looking for more projects and came across the first picture below. I started looking for similar projects and decided to make my own! The one that I finished today is the second picture below.

This was SUPER easy and way cute! I cut out 2"x5", 2"x4", and 2"x3" pieces of paper from 5 different patterns. I have TONS of hemp laying around so I used that to hang the paper on. All I did was fold in half and cut out a section of the bottom and secure with masking tape. Fast, easy, and versatile!

Put a Cork In It

Cork is such a versatile medium for decoration and art. I feel like it's not utilized enough when the possibilities are endless! Here are some examples of what you could do with a room full or cork...I can't wait to try them out for my own apartment next year!! This is such a great way to display pictures and other decorations without over cluttering a space.

Summer Sweets

One thing that I didn't get a chance to do very much at college was bake. Over Winter break I was able to bake a TON for the holidays. I love looking at Food Gawker which is a website introduced to me by my friend Maura. It has soooo many great recipes with amazing pictures detailing each step of the process. It has everything from elaborate main dishes to miniature desserts. These are just a few recipes that I found that are perfect Summer sweets! Enjoy!

This recipe for strawberry shortcake is a classic. There are so many variations and personal touches that can be added, making it perfect for a party! The light whipped cream and fresh strawberries make this a perfect summer dessert.

Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite desserts and have been since I can remember. My mom used to make the BEST (I'm not exaggerating) chocolate chip cookies with Flicketts chocolate chips.  They weren't too chewy or too tough and they had the perfect density. Even as a six-year-old I could appreciate the perfection of her cookies. When I saw this recipe on Food Gawker I knew I had to post it. These cookies look exactly like the ones that my mom used to make until they discontinued the chocolate chips. I'm so excited to try this recipe!

Could this recipe be easier? A strawberry-banana sorbet sounds complicated, but even without an ice cream maker this dessert is the perfect treat for a hot day. Yum!

Shoes!

Today, my mom bought a pair of shoes. This usually isn't a huge occasion except I LOVE the kind that she got: Sperrys. They're the perfect summer shoe with a nautical vibe. The brand itself advertises their nautical style and it flows very well throughout their collections; from babies to men's shoes, they all say "I'm on a boat".

These are my personal favorites. I saw these while at Nordstrom and fell in love...I would get them in a HEARTBEAT if they had my size!

Another brand that I like is Keep. Similar to Tom's, the company's vibe is very down to earth as well as earth-friendly. I see them as being almost a hybrid of Tom's and Sperry's: nautical feel with an organic twist. They are also primarily unisex with some exceptions. My sister is OBSESSED with this brand and was the one who introduced me to it. Here are a few of my favorites:

Gettin' Crafty

When I was younger, I used to collect stickers. Not to look at later, but to preserve them because they were so special. Only the "special" projects got stickers. Same story for my pens, crayons, and colored pencils: I preserved their newness for as long as possible because the box of 24 Crayolas looked way better when the crayons were still pointy. I would probably diagnose myself with childhood artistic OCD....hmm. If only that existed. As a grown up (only by 11 months...) I indulge myself in more "sophisticated" crafts. No more crayons, we're moving up to paint chips and ribbon!

Craft Gawker is my new addiction. I turn to this site whenever I'm bored and I can usually find a few things to craft up. If nothing else, it inspires me to clean my room because half the things are for organization purposes!

My first crafty-thing are these paint chip gift tags. I can't WAIT to try it out this week! The trees might be a little out of season, but the idea is perfect for any time of year. These simple and personalized tags can be made in a few easy steps, with little to no expense!

1. Pick out paint chips from a local hardware store.

2. Use an existing hole punch or pick one up from a scrapbook store (a monogram would be ADORABLE)

3. Punch the fancy hole out of the not-so-fancy paper and lay it over another paint chip and secure with glue. 

4. One more hole punch at the top and finish it with a ribbon, and Voilà! A beautiful, inexpensive tag that can be used anywhere from gifting to bookmarking.

To hide the "paint chip effect" simply cut out a piece of cardstock (OR another paint chip!) and attach to the back. Mix up the ribbon, colors, punches, and uses! The possibilities are endless.


I have a problem: Too many necklaces! I don't think I wear half of them (ever...) partly because they're tangled up in a drawer of a desk organizer. Out of sight, out of mind. When I came across this next project I knew I had to share! I'm going to go thrifting this weekend to look for a frame so I can do this myself. It's also a great way to hang earrings (that don't require backs). It'll go perfectly in my new apartment this year!

1. Obtain an old/new/beat up frame. 
2. Trim wire mesh to fit and attach with a staple gun.
3. Use s-hooks to hang necklaces.
4. Ummm...that's all! This is such a simple and cute way to utilize a frame as well as those forgotten necklaces, even if only for decoration.
